Seat Alhambra Key Problems
Seat's family MPV jumbo is among the top in the market in terms of keeping resales value. With a new model currently on sale the jumbo family MPV is even better.
There are a myriad of reasons that the key fob might not work properly, such as a dead coin battery, damage to the receiver module, water issues, or signal interference. This article will walk you through the steps to get it working again.
Water Damage
If your seat alhambra key fob is able to withstand an wash cycle or bath in the pool or ocean it's likely to have an amazing waterproof chip but be careful not to make this a routine since exposure to excessive water increases the chance of the key fob becoming damaged. If seat key ceases to working after exposure to clean water from the tap or rain, simply take out the battery, wipe the electronic component with a towel and allow it to dry completely before putting it back in. In the event of exposure to soapy water or salt, it is recommended to wash the chip with isopropyl alcohol or electronic cleaner prior to attempting to insert the battery back in.
Faulty Receiver Module
If you've tried the battery of a button cell and the key fob still doesn't lock or unlock then it's likely the receiver module has been faulty. The good news is that this is a relatively simple and cost-effective fix. You can just disconnect the battery for about a couple of minutes (first remove the negative cable then press the horn button multiple times) to remove any remaining electricity and then reconnect it in reverse order e.g. Positive first followed by negative.
ESP Warning Light - If the ESP warning light flashes, this is normal and means that the vehicle is driving through terrain where the traction between the road surface and the tyres isn't optimal, such as snow, gravel or a lot of surface water. If the ESP light is always on, it means that there is a problem in the system. It is possible to identify the problem by using an iCarsoft i908 seat OBD code reader kit. It will provide you with a an in-depth description of the fault.
Dead Coin Battery
One of the most frequent reasons for the seat alhambra keys to stop functioning is a dead coin battery. The key fob is powered by a small button cell battery that keeps it running. It should be replaced with a new one that is the same size, voltage and specifications as the original. If you're replacing the battery ensure that you remove all metal clips from the back of the key fob. Also make sure the contacts are free of corrosion.
If the key fob was exposed to water (such as rain or soapy tap water), it is recommended to remove and clean the chip using an electronic cleaner or isopropylethanol prior to installing a new battery. The chip is sensitive to moisture and could be permanently damaged. If the key fob is still not working after replacing the battery, it may be necessary to replace the entire key fob.
Faulty Receiver Module
If your key fob was not working after replacing the battery, but it did not perform, or stopped working suddenly the receiver module could have experienced a malfunction. The receiver module is responsible for capturing the radio frequency signals that are sent by your remote key fob and convert them into electrical signals which are then processed by other modules in the car.
If the receiver module has developed a fault it will not respond to any of the commands transmitted by your remote key fob. In this instance the dealer will have to reprogramme the key fob and install an entirely new receiver.
The key fob comes with rubber seals that prevent water from entering the chip inside. If you dip the key fob into salty or soapy water it could cause damage to the chip. You can try to clean the chip by using isopropyl Alcohol to rub it or electronic cleaner, however If your key fob doesn't work after doing this, you'll have to buy a new one.

If the keys are successfully paired, but your receiver module is not working You can try to restart all of the electronics on board by disconnecting the battery at 12 volts for couple of minutes. Connect the battery in reverse (negative cable to positive first). This will reset the onboard electronic and restore their functionality.
Electronic Chip Faulty
The key fob has an electronic chip that transmits a message to the receiver module each time the key is used. If the signal doesn't coincide with the one stored by the car, the immobilizer will disable the engine and stop the vehicle from starting. If, however, the key fob is not working and you can't reprogram it the issue could be due to a faulty chip.
The chip inside the key fob is not permanent to the device and may need to be replaced to function again. The best way to do this is by removing the key from its housing and then using a pin or needle to get into contact with each of the retaining clips made of steel. You will have to replace them if they are damaged or corrosion-prone. Make sure any replacement batteries have the same voltage, size and specifications as the original.
The Seat Alhambra is a well-designed and popular car but, as with any car it may encounter problems with specific parts or equipment. Some owners have reported issues with the automatic climate-control system. It is prone to fail and cause problems, and then get stuck in a specific setting. In the same way, the infotainment system has also been found to malfunction and cause freeze screens.
